Hypnotherapy – what
is it used for?
To break unwanted habits such as smoking or over eating. To strengthen
control, overcome stress and related ailments, calm nerves, overcome
fear and phobia, boost confidence, give insight into unconscious triggers
which may cause unexplained
symptoms.
Hypnosis – what is it?
An altered state of consciousness in which it is possible to communicate
with the unconscious mind.
We all drift in and out of this state for example when watching television,
getting lost in a book, a piece of music or a day dream, or just before we
go to sleep. I will guide you into this same kind of trance state (hypnotic
trance). It is a very pleasant feeling of calmness and deep relaxation.
You will normally have your eyes closed, but will still be able to hear, feel
and
even speak. Your concentration and awareness will actually be heightened.
Relaxation is the main requirement to enter a hypnotic state and when the body
and mind
are sufficiently relaxed the unconscious mind becomes receptive to
positive suggestion.
Positive Suggestion – what is it?
A positively worded command (we will discuss this prior to hypnosis
during the consulting session) which is suggested to the unconscious
mind.
In the relaxed state of hypnosis the unconscious mind is particularly receptive
and can store the commands and then act upon them. This process can re-programme
the mind bringing about the desired beneficial changes. People enter varying
degrees of hypnosis and some drift in and out of lighter and deeper states.
Deep states are not required for successful hypnotherapy.
